Posted in Truck Racing News | Tagged Vauxhall Parts Worcester |The Viking Vauxhall team were in good spirits after last weekend at Donnington where Nic finished 1st and 2nd.
At Brands Hatch, the heavens opened for qualifying, which usually the team would be delighted about. In session 1 of qualifying which was 10 minutes Nic posted a good time and qualified 2nd just behind Steve Dance. The pickup’s set up was for a dry qualifying session as the Viking team did not know what the weather was going to do with dark clouds looming all around the track. Qualifying 2 started straight after Q1 giving the team no time to change the set up. Two minutes before Q2 ended the Viking Vauxhall team noticed Nic had failed to make it around the track, infact he had approached the heir pin too fast and ended up in the gravel, Nic claims it was a problem with his brakes, but crew chief Karl has other ideas.
Nic’s incident left him 3rd in Q2 and left the Viking Vauxhall team a job of vacuuming his engine – atleast they were kept busy! Luckily for Nic and the Viking Vauxhall team no damage had been caused to the engine, this was because as Nic was heading for the gravel he had managed to turn the engine off.
After the palarva of the gravel, Karl took Nic for a quiet word in how to drive the full length of the circuit! The Viking Vauxhall team were ready and raring to go for Race 1. The race got underway and it was an absolutely fantastic nail biting race, with Steve Dance and Carl Boardley fighting for around 10 laps to eventually decide the winner that was to be Carl Boardley. Nic was running a close 3rd but backed off slightly towards the end.
After finishing 3rd, Nic was hungry for a 1st podium. The break between Race 1 and 2 was very short, just giving the Viking team enough time to weigh and check the truck. All of the Pickup Truck Racing teams were struggling with what tyres to choose as the track was quickly drying but the heavens looked to be opening again – a few crossed fingers for the weather to hold off and it did until the last 2 laps.
The battle for 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th was fantastic to watch with the pack constantly changing positions every lap, Nic did manage to fight his way through to 1st and hold off Carl Boardley who was yet again having a battle with Steve Dance for 2nd and 3rd place. This allowed Nic to get a slight lead of the chasing pack, but one mistake could of changed it all. Nic came across the line 1st and Carl Boardley followed in a close 2nd with Steve Dance even closer in 3rd.
Video to follow shortly with plenty of action!
The next Pickup Truck round is 28th-29th July at Thruxton.

Posted in Truck Racing News |The Viking Vauxhall Team came home from a sunny weekend in Pembrey with 2 trophies in tow.
Nic aimed to come home with 70kg extra ballast but only managed 50kg after being spun out in the final. The damage to Nics truck certainly says “if you aint rubbin you aint racin!”
Qualifying went well for the Viking team finishing 1st in both sessions which put Nic 10th on the grid for heat 1 and heat 2. With not too many alterations to the car, the team were ready for heat 1.
Within the first lap Nic had made good head way and was fighting his way through the pack. After a tough battle, Nic was leading, and managing to make good headway whilst the others were fighting for positions. After 12 laps Nic crossed the line first with last years champion #16 in tow.
With Saturdays race over, the Viking Vauxhall team reflected on how the truck had handled, what could they do to improve the truck, and talked of ways to shave time off Nic’s lap times.
Bright and early Sunday morning was heat 2, a much closer and more exciting race than heat 1! The battle between Nic and Steve Dance continued for much of the 12 laps with them changing positions constantly. By lap 11 going into the first corner, Steve tried to overtake Nic, but Nic was to “shut the door” on Steve. The rest of the pack were having battles with eachother which made for fantastic entertainment. Across the line they came with Nic in 1st much to the delight of the Viking Vauxhall team.
With 16 laps for the final, the team were unsure whether Nic’s tyres would hold out as they were struggling after around 10 laps throughout the first 2 heats, but despite this Nic remained confident he could win yet another race, but this wasn’t to be as our good luck was about to turn bad! The Viking team knew the only way they could possibly win was to break out within the first few laps, a task Nic was happy to oblige too. After lap 1 it was clear that Nic was going to have to drive the best he possibly could if he was to battle through the pack and break away. Nic was caught up in one or two ruts which involved other trucks spinning out (none of which were Nic’s fault may we add).
Nic was now fighting for 3rd place with another truck, unfortunately Nic was taken out and ended up at the back of the pack. The damage to the truck was unfortunate and now Nic had no control over the back end of his truck. With current champion #16 breaking away at the front of the pack, there wasn’t much chance of Nic taking home another trophy! The Viking Vauxhall team had suspected a puncture at first but when Nic drove past pit lane it was clear that the damage was much worse. However, like the experienced driver Nic is, he carried on and crossed the line 11th after battling with his truck.
Minus the final race, an fantastic weekend for the Viking Vauxhall team and they look forward to Brands Hatch on Sunday 22nd April!
Nic would just like to thank for Viking Vauxhall team and Exon race engines for their hard work over the weekend.
Below is a photo of Nics wheel rim after the final!
